1 / 3

On October 30, the delegation led by the RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan took part in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA) Council Session in Moscow. The RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, the RA NA deputies Khosrov Harutyunyan and Koryun Nahapetyan are in the delegation led by the Head of the Parliament .

In his speech the RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan has noted that for many years the activity is aimed at the provision of the coordination of the actions of the member countries in the sphere of defense, including the adoption of the model legislation and the elaboration of recommendations over a number of topical modern agenda items.

“I would like to express my regret on moving the CSTO PA Council and Assembly Plenary Sessions from Yerevan. Yes, the inner-political situation in Armenia can result in the dissolution of the parliament, as a consequence, the extraordinary elections. Nevertheless, we were ready to fulfill our obligations and organize the events scheduled in Armenia. However, we refer to the mutually agreed decision with respect: the postponement of holding the Session in Yerevan,” the RA NA Speaker said.

The Head of the parliament expressed hope that in the near future the Assembly Council and Plenary Sessions will be held in Armenia.

Ara Babloyan has assured that the foreign political orientation of Armenia will not be changed as a result of the possible extraordinary parliamentary elections, as there is mutual consent in the society in the issue of Armenia’s participation in the CSTO. The Head of the RA legislative body thanked his colleagues for the effective cooperation within the framework of the Assembly, as well as in the bilateral format. Ara Babloyan expressed conviction that the united legislative work would serve as an important factor of peace and security in the format of the CSTO parliamentary component not only in the region of the CSTO responsibility, but also in the whole world.

During the session a number of draft laws of the Assembly 11th Plenary Session agenda, including items relating to the priorities of the Presidency of Kazakhstan to the CSTO PA in 2018, making amendments and addenda to the programme of the Assembly activity of the harmonization and approximation of the CSTO Member States’ national legislations for 2016-2020, the working plan of the Assembly during 2019, the PA financial activity, the holding of the Assembly Council next session and other procedure items.

The member of the RA NA delegation Khosrov Harutyunyan presented the results of the participation of the CSTO member states’ parliamentary delegations in the OSCE PA Summer Session held in Berlin on 7-11 July 2018.
